Gary Gillman

In 1987, Gary came to my rescue. I was chairman of the Harbor Festival and not only were we incorporating as a non-profit, but we were moving the Festival from the dirt parking lot at Morro Rock to the Embarcadero. We were all working full time at our day jobs and suddenly the volunteer work load approached the overwhelming level. In stepped the "G Man."

He and his wife Jeannie had recently moved to town and had taken over the Chevron Station at Beach and Main. Not only was he starting a new business, but he took the time to make a significant contribution. He went on to chair the Festival a couple of years and work on the Board several more.

A few years ago, Gary decided to have an economic life that did not depend on Chevron. A wise decision. Chevron closed the station and Gary opened an auto repair shop across the street.

He also began a home building career with local builders Hank and Randy Watterworth. Another wise decision. He liked that so much that he talked about getting into real estate. I offered him a desk in the office and he took it. A wise decision for both of us.
