Located on a hillside near the Hwy 41 entrance to the City of Morro Bay, this nearly new beautifully designed home has views of the hillsides and Peaks towards San Luis Obispo. The neigborhood is almost all new homes, many of which, like this one, are two homes on one lot. Designed by a local architect, the home takes full advantage of the slope to maximize privacy.

There is a great beach just down the road. It has a parking lot at the edge of the sand almost in the shadow of Morro Rock. It is one of the most scenic beaches anywhere. Sand dunes border the wide sandy beach and a scenic creek spills onto it. Birds abound.

This is one of the best beaches for surfing anywhere around, but if you and the kids just want to get into the water, make sure you wear wetsuits--even to just swim. Trajedy has struck in the surf here because parents allowed children to get into the water without wetsuits and they unluckily got caught in a riptide that occasionally occurs in this area and suffered hypothermia before they could be rescued.

Wetsuits can easily be rented from a variety of shops like Wavelengths on the Embarcadero. Mike Hischier, owner, or one of his talented staff members, will provide the advice, wetsuits, boogie boards and surf boards to make your experience in the waves safe and enjoyable. Mike regularly goes on surfing safaries across the world and is a wealth of information if surfing is your thing.

This history and pre-history of the area this home is located in is very interesting. On the other side of Hwy 41, across from this home, is Miner's Ace Hardware Store. All of the land Miner's is built on, as well as all the land all the buildings are built on all the way to Taco Bell is fill. At the turn of the century, this area was a lagoon. Native Americans inhabited the hillsides around the lagoon including the one where this home is located--as well as the top of the hill and the level area north towards Avalon Street. According to excavations done by Cal Trans sponsored archaeolists, the area has one of the five most pristine 8,000 year old settlements in California. It is located about eleven feet below the current surface near Hwy 1.

Two Native American tribes currently claim Morro Bay as part of their ancestral home--The Chumash and the Salinan. The Chumash say Morro Bay is the far north part of their tribal area and the Salinan say it is the far southern part of their area. There are descendents of the Salinan tribes living in Morro Bay today and only last year one family discovered that a painting that has been hanging in the San Miguel Mission for over 200 years was of their oldest known matriarchs, a convert who came from Limekiln Creek, on the coast below Big Sur, with her daughter to the Mission just after it was built. It is estimated she was born before 1700.

When you go down to the beach, look over to Morro Rock and imagine what it looked like before the road to the Rock was built. This was the entrance to the Bay for eons. Think of all the footprints in the sand that has been washed away by the waves and the handiwork of the Army Corp of Engineers.

After walking through the history of the area, come back to this beautiful home and relax. If you love to cook, you will love this kitchen. It is the perfect home to enjoy good food, good friends, and family. We hope your vacation is spectacular and, in its own way, historic. Let us know. Be sure to leave some remarks in the Guest book so we can share in some of your adventure.
