Are you looking for a cozy little cottage, priced just right, near the Bay in a great Baywood Park neighborhood? Well, you just found it. 1272 4th Street is very secluded even though there is another home behind it. The home is back away from the street and has fences and hedges to enhance privacy. This is the perfect little get-away!
Take a walk straight down 4th Street to the end of the street (going north) and you will find a small park with a bench facing the Bay. The views are incredible. The sand-spit is on the left and then Morro Rock, Black Mountain, the Morro Bay Golf Course and finally, Hollister Peak. What a great place to converse with the love of your life about the future, the past, and all those places in between.
The bird life is amazing and seems to ebb and flow like the tides. Here is the Morro Bay estuary in all its glory. Bring your binoculars.
The home has a very nice kitchen but if the chef is on strike, take a walk over to the Baywood Park village where you can have your choice of several excellent restaurants. Do you like Thai? Noi's Thai takeout has mouthwatering dishes. Call ahead and Noi will have it ready for you when you walk over. She or her sister will be standing at the stove, wok in hand, preparing meal after meal. Ask for the spring rolls. If you are lucky, there will be some left. Be careful when she asks if you want it hot. Hot only comes in one sauce--want it hotter, just add more sauce. But be careful. It is HOT!
We love to sit at the outdoor patio of the Mexican restaurant and look out at the cove as we eat. The peacefulness is so relaxing and the service is great. This is the place where you leave the arguments at home and re-discover the good times through good conversation.
As you walk back to your bungalow by the Bay, hand in hand, you can plan your adventures for the next day. Will it be a hike on one of the fabulous trails at Montana de Oro? Here's one of my favorites if the idea appeals to you. Go to the parking lot just past the Ranger station and park where the sign says "Valentia Peak." Walk about a hundred yards to a sign that says "Rattlesnake Trail." Turn right and follow it to a dirt road. Now comes a hard choice. If you take the dirt road to the left, you end up on top of a knoll where a private camp ground is located for small groups. Maybe there's no one there. If so, sit down at the table and look out at the most incredible ocean views you have ever seen. It is the perfect place for watching sunsets. Okay, someone is already there. Go back down the road, cross the paved road, and follow the trail to the ocean. At the bluff edge, you will intersect a path that follows the bluff back to the Ranger Station. To the left, down on a rocky outlook, is a picnic table. Hopefully you will have it to yourself. I hope you remembered to bring a bottle of wine and some cheese and bread. If the tide is up, the water will sweep up to you on both sides of the rock. If the sun is going down, you will experience nature at its finest. Take the path north back to your car. Bringing a flashlight along wouldn't be a bad idea. Go prepared to see deer and if you are lucky, Old Jack, a four-point buck, might be walking about.
Okay. When you get back to your vacation home you will have discovered that you just spent several hours without thinking about work once. Your weekend get-away just turned into a weekend renewal.
